This is what excitement looks like....

And it comes in the form of Harajuku Lover fabric. <3

Current Projects 1/30/12

Since I've started up again I thought I should update my last current projects list (which I forgot I had.)
  1. Remove personal information from computer hard drives, (DONE) trade in (Not useful) and get new computer (STILL WORKING ON THAT)
  2. Jewelry organizer: I had one but it's now too large for the redesign of my boudoir. I want to make something like this. But am still looking for a frame or artwork that will fit in the space I need it. I do have a Jax Beer tin sign that is being re purposed into an earring holder. (I've reached the point where I think I just need to build my own from scratch but I know where it's going and the sizing is starting to take shape.)
  3. Put pictures on the wall. I have a bunch of things in frames but they aren't on the wall because I'm not sure where I want them. Hopefully this weekend, Andy and I can make that final decision. (See Progress)
  4. Yard Sale Items - I have a pile but the sale isn't until Sept 10th. (DONE, not for next years collection to start)
  5. Organizing of Craft room - almost complete and Basement - not even started
    • Craft room has made significant strides towards improvement. I have things labeled in boxes, etc. I just need to figure out the desk situation and finish the one angled curtain, then continually maintain it's cleanliness. I'll need to do photos of this room soon. It's in dire need of a name similar to the Boudoir.
    • Basement - more space for working has been found, but I still have several containers of tools, supplies, etc. Need to condense it on a warm day.
NEW to the list
6. Sewing craft for Fallon (to be named later)
7. Tshirt Quilt
8. Zombie target
9. Unicorn motorcycle? maybe
10. Harajuku pillows and doll

Bi-Fold Doors 2.0 - Part 1

As always my blogging skills are subpar. I'm always trying but I'm usually doing and not remembering to take photos. So here is my latest project. I guess a slat fell out of the bi-fold doors and Matt noticed there was a part that wasn't even glued together. So I took it as an opportunity to improve our already FREE curb acquirement with some paint and fabric. First, Matt took the doors downstairs for me and I removed the hardware and slats. Those slats will make either good firewood, paint stirrers, or other small project helper. Then I lightly sanded all the surfaces so the paint would stick better. We bought a small can on Gidden Bright White High-Gloss Enamel Door and Trim paint. I already had a brush. I've only painted one side, and will paint the other next. The one door that needed to be glue is drying and I just used wood glue to put the pieces together that hadn't been glued previously. I also purchanced fabric for the doors which I will measure and cut. More pictures to come but this is a project I will finish before the week is up.

Iron-on Heming

In preparation for Arisia 2012, I thought I would add some finishings to a thrift store find I recently purchased. I had always had the iron on heming stuff lying around but I have never used it. Can I just say WOW! It was so easy and came out so good. I know I've heard people complain about it because you can't un-hem things but for my purposes it was perfect. I was able to rip seems and fold them over to make a clean edge. Shorten the sleeves. Add trim to the bottom and finally I added a fake cinching detail to the back of the shirt. Take a look.
Arisia photos including costume details!

Also if you are interested, in the photos you will see Sasha's costume which was made in 1 week. Helmet (formally a waste paper basket, sunglasses, and gaff tape), brain (clay with paint using jello mold), apron (formally a dress), scapal, and she even painted her gloves blacker.
